history
The Blairgowrie Merchants Association was formed in 1899, making it one of the oldest of its type in Scotland.  It was originally nicknamed the "Plate Glass Company" as it was set up to address the problem of windows being broken in Blairgowrie and Rattray!  In consequence, the first committee was asked to draft rules for the Association and to explore the formation of the local Plate Glass Insurance scheme.  In addition committee members were also instructed to consider a bad debt blacklist, holiday dates and business opening hours.
